Just around the corner: our third annual E4:12 Conference- Marriage: A Beautiful Mystery.
We’ve given significant thought to the direction of this year’s conference. To be honest, we wrestled with what this conference should look like, and thought about who would be our audience. I was questioned as to how this would include single men and women in our churches. The concern that this would be a difficult conference for spouses whose marriages are struggling or have fallen apart was raised, too. And we did not want this conference to be another set of talks on everything that can go wrong in a marriage and how to address those issues.
Instead, our desire is to highlight the beauty and glory of marriage as God intended it to be and to marvel at the Lord who gave this wonderful picture of the union of Jesus Christ and His Bride.
That means, this conference is not just for married couples who are experiencing a time of relative peace and enjoyment in their marriage. This is also for couples who are struggling in their relationships, giving a renewed vision for the oneness that God intends for marriages.
To our brothers and sisters who are not married: you are an integral part of the lives of married men and women in the church who need your help holding out the glories of pursuing God in the midst of life’s many distractions. The Apostle Paul, who was single, was well aware that husbands and wives are often focused on anxieties surrounding their marital relationship that distracts them from seeking to please the Lord…and he encouraged them with the hope they would “secure [their] undivided devotion to the Lord” (1 Cor. 7:35). We all need to grow in what that looks like, single or married. And together, we can press on to know the Lord who will return some day soon to call His Bride to Himself!
I want to send a special invitation to our youth, who may (or may not yet) have an eye on marriage in their not-so-distant futures: come join us as we explore the beauty and the glory of what God intends for Christian marriages to be like, and let seasoned saints help you prepare not only for such a venture, but to do so with an eye on greater heavenly mysteries!
Be sure to speak with your church leaders if they have not yet purchased a church ticket and encourage your friends and family to join you and us Nov 15-16.
